Margaret Schandevel
I am married to a wonderful man who has encouraged me to pursue my dreams. Between us we have 8 grown, children, 15 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters (life is good). My career consisted of 23 years as a Quality Director and then 12 years at General Motors as a Senior Quality Engineer. I finally retired in 2008.
Even though my career was fulfilling I have always painted and done various crafts and have kept pursuing other opportunities. Painting has always been my passion so I have taken various classes in different types of medium. In 1999 I became a One Stroke Certified Instructor and have been giving private instructions. I sell my works at Craft shows with many pieces throughout the country. The pieces I paint are done on glass, metal, wood, pottery, clothing, furniture etc. In addition I also do Landscape Oil paintings and have done decorative wall decorations. Gourds are now added to the products I sell (doing various techniques).
My husband and I attend various Art/Craft show and galleries and became very fascinated with the variety of artistic Gourds we have seen. When the Local Adult Education offered a Gourd class by Chris Pawlik I signed up and was hooked immediately. It is such a great medium to work with. I am a current member of the American Gourd Society and a member of the Michigourders Patch 1.
The Michigourders Group has so many talented people, who share their expertise and they encourage each other. Working with gourds is so much fun, and each gourd has it's own personality and it is yours to discover. In the spring of 2009, I entered my Gourd Bowl with removal lid (Under the Sea Scene with a Starfish Lid) and I won a First Place Ribbon (I couldn't believe it but it was awesome). The more I work with Gourds the more I want to learn other techniques, the possibilities are endless. Since I started working with Gourds I have found so many wonderful caring people and I enjoy their friendship.
